They Grow Up So Fast
In those early days, your newborn seems to change at every blink of an eye. Growing, getting stronger, recognising their surroundings more. I remember waking up one morning when my little boy was about 3 weeks old and looking at him and thinking “wow, he’s massive!”. So much change in such a short burst of time.
The Optimum Time To Photograph Your Baby
For a newborn shoot, I like to capture your baby in those first few weeks so we can really treasure that “newness” before the downy hairs start to fade and their fingers begin to uncurl. The optimum window for this is between 6-20 days. At this point, parents have usually recovered a little more and you are back home, feeding is more established and you’ve brought a lifetime supply of wetwipes! Of course we will still get some lovely images if you decide to wait a little longer but I aim to make it as easy as possible so you don’t have to.
When To Book
I recommend booking your newborn photo session during your pregnancy so I can guarantee availability. These babies are unpredictable things and rarely arrive on their due date but don’t fret, contact me during your pregnancy to book and we can pencil in a date so I can ensure I don’t over book that period of time. I only book a certain amount of newborn sessions in each month to allow for early and late arrivals leaving me space to slot every family in.
As your due date gets closer we can talk again to see if anything has changed with timings so we can shift the time period if needed. Then all you need to do is let me know as soon as baby arrives and we can confirm the session time. Yippee!
On The Day Of Your Shoot
I usually come to the parent’s home for your shoot, so there’s no pressure to get out of the door at a set time and you can be more relaxed, fitting around feeding, nappy changes and any routines other siblings may have.
I come with everything I’ll need, including, backdrops, blankets, baskets, lighting and of course cameras! I will probably need access to a plug socket if available
Unlike other shoots, I suggest allowing around 3-4 hours for a newborn session. I do things this way to allow time for setting up and packing down safely, with extra breaks factored in for if your baby needs a feed or a cuddle. Sometimes we can get a full gallery’s worth of images in an hour and I’ll be on my way and other times I end up using that extra time. Your baby is unique and special so lets just go with what they need on the day.
I love to photograph your new baby with their siblings! These images are super cute. Please just let me know when you book and I will allow time to make sure we get those images. I will ask you to stay close by to support me in this to ensure all children are safe.
Receiving Your Images
Your personal, password protected gallery will be available to view online after 14 days so you can view and chose your package. Unless asked not to, I also usually put a couple of sneak peeks on my page in the days after your shoot so you have something to tide you over before your full gallery is ready
I take safety seriously and am DBS checked, insured and fully trained in the safe art of newborn photography.
All online galleries are password protected.
